How-To

Kids out of school, on vacation, at camp, here’s how to pause alarms on Google Clock

You’ve got your alarms set on your Android device to wake up, when everyone has to be ready, when you have to be at the car, when you need to leave work to pick up kids, when you’ve got to be at play practice, soccer practice, and you live by those alarms most school days. But summer is coming and schools are going to be out for a couple of months… maybe you’re going on vacation, maybe you just want everything to not bother you for a couple of weeks.

Whatever the reason, you can simply pause alarms in Google for a certain time range and pick them right back up on the other side without having to remember to re-enable them.

Kids away at camp for a next week? Pause your wakeup alarm by opening the Google Clock app, choose the start and end days to pause, and sleep in another hour because you don’t have to attempt to herd hormonal sloths out the door for school.

Going on vacation? Pause everything but your alarms to take any medication you want.

Third thing here would really give it that oomf but you know, there’s really not a lot more you can do with it so I’d just be inventing something

It’s pretty useful if you just want to set it to stop, and restart without thinking about it, but it might be a little bit overkill if you just have one or two alarms because you can simply turn them off and turn them back on again.

I like it in theory because I can set it to be off in two or three years when I finally go on vacation and resume when I finally get off of vacation two days later. I don’t have to remember one more thing for vacation or coming back from vacation.

This requires the Google Clock app. You have it installed on quite a few Android devices, but if you’re using another clock app you can simply download the app from Google Play and replace your current clock app.
