I had no idea a kitchen remodel was going to flip the kids out so much

There’s been a kitchen remodel going on. We’re on work day 18, which translates to about 3 weeks 3 days.

We lost a kitchen and a dining room and part of a living room to construction, due to a Covid delay and a couple of other things we also had guests come in and take over a room from our 6yo for four days.

Our normal mostly functioning dynamic broke.

8yo had a meltdown and has been otherwise in a constant state of trouble, 6yo is suddenly remembering things that didn’t happen (witch hand appearing when she was 3 or 4 in bathroom window,) crying over tiny things, missing the kitchen she grew up in (which she mostly wasn’t allowed in due to it being a death trap.)

Attempts to explain, calm, mitigate don’t seem to help, and these problems are just weird. They’re usually not directly related to anything I can tell, just that the kids feel uneasy living in a house temporarily half the size.

That is it… buy some stuff.

We’re just working on plowing through – counters, some back splash, and finishing just waiting on as major operations appear to be finished today and counters are measured and templated out.
