The witching hour, part II

A long time ago around 7pm every night our oldest would melt down and turn into a demon. This sort of went away for a while as she got kicked out of school over and over again (illegally evidently,) and wasn’t something that existed as part of our four year old child.

At five, it’s returned. However the witching hour this time has become a series of getting frustrated at everything, saying nobody loves her, and trying to draw us into long explanations of why we love her when she’s obviously flawed for whatever reason she comes up with this time.

It’s a phishing expedition mounted by a kid who needs to probably be in bed an hour or so earlier, but that fight doesn’t work because she’ll just keep getting up for reasons and she really does not sleep at 7.

So that’s where that’s at. She’s oddly mirroring the current Hulk stories where the Hulk has the night and Banner has the days… kind of my Marvel connection to sanity here.

It’s at the point when she starts this I just say “Hey Maggie, guess what time it is” and it usually within about 10 minutes of the same time every night.

Combine this with the 3yo has decided to troll. She’s learned she can push Maggie’s buttons after it gets dark and she does. “No Maggie, I think you gave that doll to me” followed by freakout and 3yo “innocently” making it worse with a bunch of comments.

Trolls and the trolled at the witching hour.
