Moving on up, to toddler two

We were informed that Maggie was going to be moving out of her classroom by a couple of asterix on the sign-in sheet that corresponded with a note that said if your kid had that you’re moving on up to Toddler Two.

I noticed this Monday or Tuesday and figured I’d verify with the teacher that next week we were to be dropping Maggie off across the hall. The room teacher had no knowledge of this and asked where I had got that info.

I pointed her to the sign in sheet showing that two of the kiddos in Toddler One were scheduled for the hard knock Toddler Two room on the bad side of the hallway. She looked a little bit sad and a bit angry, then told me it was because they didn’t have an assistant and there were too many Toddler 1s the next week to keep the correct ratio.

I lost count of how many teachers Maggie has had in Toddler one in the past six months. It seems like somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-13 before her current one came in, but that may just be parent brain reactively filling in. It was far too many.

Toddler Two is not much different except Maggie will be one of the smaller ones, also the only kid in it that I’ve noticed that doesn’t know how to shoot a basketball, but it has seats and that is Maggie’s jam at the moment – appropriately sized seating arrangements.

It is kind of sad that at Christmas she’s going to be moving away from most of her little friends and enemies. But I guess they’ll be showing up in her room in the coming weeks and months, and there’s always chance encounters in the hall.
