Post illness, baby doesn’t sleep through the night

Maggie’s finally healthy again, and with that health we’ve now got an infant who will wake up at 1:15am every night and proceed to scream without mercy. Sleep terror sorts of things again.

This lead to a three hour fight two nights ago with me vs the baby. Last night it lead to ITMama taking her up to bed and me taking the couch as I can’t deal with the eye damage baby likes to inflict (took me three days to see correctly last time, she hits and claws in her sleep).

Neither night produced much sleep for anyone involved which has lead to the zombification of all parties concerned. Couch sleeping + hearing baby upstairs waking up every 12 minutes wasn’t particularly restful, and when a cat jumped on my face at 4am things didn’t go too well.

In 12 days we’ll have daycare starting at six AM, which if the night screaming keeps up means we’ll have about an hour of sleep.

My hope is this is a short phase like the last sleep terror phase was. Supposedly before large developmental milestones this happens a lot, and also supposedly keeping a baby up to make sure it sleeps can make things significantly worse.

Don’t have much to write on this, the baby has been cranky for a month now but incredibly loving. I feel like she’s become some sort of sadistic kitten and it’s become a game for her to swing me from exhausted to angry to awww in the shortest time possible.

No insight here, just feeling like a failure at whatever I try to do to help baby at the moment. Amazing the levels one feels at without enough sleep for days.
