Maggie’s first Superb Owl party
This is a long rambling story with no point and some cute photos enhanced by Google’s Auto Awesome feature. For the past few years I’ve held a commercial watching party on game day, it’s been known as a variety of things such as the Commercials Repeatedly Interrupted by Football party, the $2 Million Advertisement party, and a couple of other things. This year it was titled the Superb Owl party.
It’s been called the Superb Owl party a couple of times in the past according to an email I got, I don’t recall that, but oh well… either way I named it the year at least a month before Stephen Colbert and the Colbert Nation grabbed it.
Maggie got to be party baby and be passed around a room full of people who occasionally would yell “Commercialllllsss!!!” and all would fall silent. For her this was a dream come true, and other than these short times she could babble and receive mostly undivided attention of whoever she was with.
Near the end of the game, she was getting tired but struggling to stay awake so she could keep being the center of attention, until she finally passed the eff out for about 30 minutes. Her game break was pretty short but the power nap managed to give her a significantly better comeback than the Broncos.
It was a pretty fun night all around, rowdy commercial watching fans, another baby over for a bit, and way too much food to be had. She finally passed out near the end of the game if I remember correctly, and I passed out shortly after New Girl.
I woke at about 2am, Maggie was passed out in her bed but her diaper looked like a small moon in the monitor, so I went and dealt with that, checked her temperature because she’s on the tail end of whatever I had/have, and then spent a few minutes rocking her back to sleep while listening to her favorite XM radio station.
I then saw some nannycam footage someone randomly posted on Facebook of this woman beating the crap out of a pre-toddler, and I went back down and woke Maggie up and held her and rocked her some more until I could get that image out of my mind.
All in all it was a pretty great night sans Facebook video, she’s still a party baby. Wish we’d gotten a picture of her in her Titan’s gear. We’re too poor to purchase Seahawks baby gear, and truth be told our main reason for rooting for them was we’ve had bad experiences at the Denver airport, and so had Maggie, and we’d had a pretty good experience with Seattle for a wedding, although Maggie was not out for that yet.
End of long rambling Superb Owl story.
